How to reach Pisa
BY PLANE
Pisa has an international airport, Aeroporto Galileo Galilei (PSA), with daily flights to and from many national and international destinations; more than 50 airports are currently connected to the airport of Pisa via low-cost flights by carriers such as Ryanair and EasyJet. The timetable of incoming and outgoing flights is available at the web site of Pisa airport (https://www.pisa-airport.com/en/).
The airport is on the outskirts of the town, approximately 3 km far from the city centre. The most convenient way to reach the conference venue is probably by taxi. At the airport taxis are located in front of the terminal exit, in the arrivals area. The non-stop radio taxi service can be contacted by phone at the following number: +39 050 541600. The taxi service is run by CO.TA.PI (Taxi Pisa Cooperative). For further information and bookings please visit the web site: www.cotapi.it.
Alternatively, you can take Pisamover shuttle to reach the train station and then take the city bus number 4 and get off at the bus stop in via F. Buonarroti.
Pisamover is a high-speed, fully automatic transport system that connects the airport to the central railway station. The service operates every day from 4.30 in the morning to 1.30 in the night. During the day the frequency is approximately every 7 minutes while early in the morning and late in the night it is every 15 minutes. The average travel time between the airport and the train station, including the intermediate stop, is approximately 5 minutes. Tickets for PisaMover can be bought from ticket machines at the airport, at Pisa central railway station and at San Giusto/Aurelia station.
If you arrive at the Florence International airport we suggest taking a train from the main railway station in Florence (Firenze Santa Maria Novella) to Pisa Central Station. There are trains every 30 minutes and the average travelling time is 1 hour.
BY TRAIN
Pisa railway station is located on the main railway line from Roma to Torino. It is also frequently connected with Florence.
Please visit the Trenitalia website (https://www.trenitalia.com/) for information about the train schedule and for ticket booking service.
The station is at the southern edge of the city centre, around two kilometers from the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The taxi rank and the bus stop for urban routes can be found outside the railway terminal.
BY CAR
Pisa is near the intersection of two highways: A12 north-south (Sestri Levante - Livorno) and A11 east-west (Pisa - Florence). Pisa is also connected to Florence through the freeway called SGC Fi-Pi-Li (Strada di Grande Comunicazione). If you arrive from the north-south direction, exit at “Pisa Centro” of the A12. If you arrive from the east direction, exit either at the “Pisa Nord” of A11 or take the A12 connection and exit at “Pisa Centro”. If you arrive from the east through SGC Fi-Pi-Li exit at “Pisa Nord-Est”.
Most of the historical centre of Pisa is a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL), so only authorised vehicles can access this zone (unauthorised access will be fined).
Parking is a bit of a problem and most parking areas are with pay-meters. Consider parking in one of the car parks outside the city centre and to reach the conference venue by bus or taxi.
